What Is Candida
Candida is the name given to an illness that reflects the spread and overgrowth of different types of candida yeast creating a variety of health difficulties. Different types of candida yeast normally exist within human beings, the main one being candida albicans. Candida yeast organisms are present from birth and reside in the intestinal tract. Under certain conditions this yeast grows and spreads into an overgrowth throughout the body. That's when it becomes a health problem. It can spread through the bloodstream, into joints and membranes surrounding the brain and can penetrate the membrane of the brain going into the brain itself, one major cause of dementia. Throughout this article I will use the term candida to reflect the overgrowth and spread of the unhealthy spread of candida yeast within the body.
Common Ways of Developing Candida
An overgrowth of the candida fungus can be triggered by the use of antibiotics, birth control pills, by steroid treatments, drugs that repress the immune system, radiation treatment and chemotherapy. It can be triggered by the repression of emotions over long periods of time. Long-term repression of anger, trauma, fear and hurt can trigger a candida overgrowth. Candida is sexually transmitted and can be transmitted through oral sex as well as other types of sex.
Using antibiotics is one of the most common ways today of developing a fungus overgrowth of candida. Antibiotics are not able to discriminate between good and bad bacteria and when taken they eliminate all bacteria in your system, including the good stuff - and we need lots of good bacteria to digest our food, and for many other inner functions. The candida fungus then grows into an overgrowth to fill the empty spaces and continues to grow throughout the human body, including the joints and around and through the brain membrane.
Walter Last in a recent article called " Candida and the Antibiotic Syndrome" states that in the 1940's Candida was found in only three percent of autopsies, now the figure is 30%. That is quite a statistic - one in three has a high probability of having a candida fungus overgrowth.
Birth control pills and other prescription drugs can unbalance your hormones and unbalanced hormones easily lead to an overgrowth of the candida fungus.
Candida is also sexually transmitted. And this includes kissing as well as all other forms of oral sexual activity. It's very important to understand this and to ensure you are not having sex with those infected with a candida overgrowth. Condoms can eliminate some of the risk but there is still some risk attached in using condoms since condoms often seep, leak and split. The candida fungus can be transferred between people through all bodily fluids.
